Tomorrow is Day 1 of MSISS Classes: MSISS stands for Management Science and Information System Studies. It is a rather long-winded name and people are pretty confused when you rattle it off. Basically, MSISS is a course in Management Science (optimisation, probability, modelling), Economics and IT (data dining, programming etc) - a great combination for real-world scenarios such as financial modelling where an MSISS graduate can analyse the problem, design a model and spec/program the solution.
MSISS graduates are particularly sought-after for management and forecasting positions, e.g. in companies such as Paddy Power and Ladbrokes or financial organisations.
I was drawn to the course because of the breadth of the material and because the IT material seems complex and interesting. Using IT for data mining, forecasting and business-intelligence programming is a very interesting (and lucrative) area.
I’ve been interested in the internet and programming for a number of years and I can’t wait to use my web-programming knowledge to create tools which solve a complex problem with the new information in the course such as forecasting and data mining.
I hope to use this website to showcase web-apps demonstrating techniques learned on the course, hopefully to solve some real problems!
